I am delighted to welcome new and returning students to our Clear Water Bay campus as we embark on another exciting academic year at HKUST. I hope you are all looking forward to a year filled with discovery and growth.
At HKUST, we take great pride in providing world-class academic programs to challenge and inspire you. Our dedicated faculty stand ready to nurture your intellectual curiosity and critical thinking, preparing you to make a meaningful impact in your chosen field.
As a forward-looking university, we are consistently expanding our wealth of resources to enhance your academic journey. To our returning students, you are already familiar with our outstanding facilities and extra-curricular amenities. To our new students, it is my sincere hope that you have a similarly enriching experience as you explore these resources.
In 2025, HKUST further raised its global stature, being placed 11th in the QS Asian University Rankings and 47th in the QS World University Rankings, with a top spot in Greater China for Data Science and AI. We also ranked 19th in the Time Higher Education Impact Rankings, being the highest-ranked institution in sustainability efforts in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
HKUST (Guangzhou), our sister campus in Mainland China, also offers exciting avenues for learning. Our recently launched “Redbird Cross Campus Study Program” promotes collaboration, resource sharing, and student exchanges between our two campuses, and promises to further elevate your academic journey.
Beyond striving for academic excellence, I encourage you to nurture your personal interests and explore new horizons through social clubs, creative endeavors, or service. This will broaden your perspectives, strengthen your interpersonal skills, and enrich your university experience.

The Dean of Students
I would like to extend my warmest welcome to each of you as you join us at HKUST. This is a significant time in your lives, as you transition from adolescence to adulthood, and we are glad that you have chosen HKUST to accompany you on this important journey. Your development is something we deeply care about, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
University is a unique place where knowledge is created and expanded. It will not only broaden your horizons but also shape your future. However, it’s important to remember that while grades are a part of your university experience, they do not define your worth or potential. At HKUST, we celebrate diversity and recognize that each student is unique. We offer a wide array of challenges for you to explore your interests, discover your passions, carve out your own path toward a successful future, and eventually contribute to humanity. Remember, our faculty and staff members are committed to guiding you along your journey to success.
University life can be incredibly enriching and full of experiences, but it can also pass by quickly. We encourage you to fully immerse yourself in this experience, to build meaningful connections, and to explore your strengths. Remember, your learning journey doesn’t end when you graduate; it continues throughout your life.
